China's Mawei Shipyard has cut the first steel for two new heavy lift vessels in a series ordered by Dutch shipowner Spliethoff.

The vessels will each have a deadweight of 12,500 tonnes, 5,900 square metres of total deck space, DP2 capability, and two 500-tonne cranes.

The vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in June and July 2022, will also be capable of offshore installation work.
