A fire broke out in the engine room of a 1984-built Indonesian handy bulk carrier on Saturday, November 10.

All 22 crewmembers were safely evacuated from the 47,100DWT Golden Ocean in the waters near Bontang.

The vessel was carrying coal from Surabay when the fire erupted.

Several firefighting tugs were despatched to the scene shortly after local search and rescue authorities received the distress call issued by Golden Ocean's crew.

The blaze has been put out and the crippled vessel has been towed to the Port of Loktuan. None of the crewmembers suffered any injuries.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is still ongoing.
