A decommissioned cargo vessel that currently serves as a museum ship in Hamburg suffered an onboard fire on Tuesday, April 30.
The blaze erupted at around 19:00 local time on the upper deck of Cap San Diego while it was moored at the Port of Hamburg.
Local firefighters were immediately despatched to the scene and were able to extinguish the blaze later in the evening. No injuries have been reported.
Police officials investigating the incident said the fire originated in an onboard container that housed electrical parts.
Built in 1962 as one of six cargo vessels dubbed the "White Swans of the South Atlantic," Cap San Diego was preserved as a museum ship after it was purchased by the city of Hamburg in 1986. The vessel remains operational and goes out on trips along the Elbe River several times a year.
