China Shipbuilding Group (CSG), through subsidiary China Shipbuilding Chengxi Ship Repair, has delivered a new orange juice carrier to Netherlands-based Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC).
Named Atlantic Orchard, the vessel had originally been built as a 36,000DWT bulk carrier but has been modified for liquid cargo transport.
Atlantic Orchard has an LOA of 176.65 metres, a beam of 30 metres, and 15 cargo tanks with independent refrigeration systems. The cargo tanks are designed to transport orange juice at zero degrees Celsius or concentrated orange juice at -10 degrees Celsius to prevent bacterial contamination.
The vessel's total cargo capacity is 19,500 cubic metres, which China Shipbuilding Chengxi claims is roughly equivalent to 40 million bottles of juice at 500 millilitres each.
