US Central Command (CENTCOM) and UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) have both reported an incident wherein a commercial vessel suffered damage after being struck by missiles fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on Tuesday, May 28.

The attack occurred between 12:05 and 13:40 local time on Tuesday when the Marshall Islands-flagged, Greek-owned and -operated bulk carrier Laax was struck by three anti-ship ballistic missiles (ASBMs) while underway in the Red Sea approximately 31 nautical miles southwest of Al Hudaydah, Yemen.

Another two ASBMs were fired from Houthi-controlled areas within that same timeframe but are not reported to have hit any vessels in the area.

The ship continued on its voyage following the attack. UKMTO said the master reported damage but the extent of it is yet to be determined.

CENTCOM said there were no injuries reported by US, coalition, or merchant vessels as a result of the incident.
