ESL Shipping subsidiary AtoB@C Shipping took delivery of a new cargo vessel on Thursday, June 13. Ecomar is the third unit in a 12-strong series of 5,350DWT plug-in hybrid vessels.
ESL Shipping said the series was developed to be capable of generating up to 50 per cent fewer CO2 emissions compared to the present generation of vessels, thanks to its shore power connectivity, large battery installation, and improved cargo intake. Like its sisters, Ecomar is designed to carry a wide range of bulk and breakbulk products such as steel, forest products, fertilisers, and project cargo.
The ship features a spacious and unobstructed deck, enabling it to accommodate more deck cargo and longer project cargoes compared to the existing vessels in the AtoB@C fleet. To optimise cargo capacity and enhance navigation safety, the crew accommodation and the bridge are situated at the bow, thereby improving visibility during navigation.
Ecomar and its sisters were built by Chowgule and Company of India. Earlier sisters Electramar and Stellamar were delivered in December 2023 and March 2024, respectively.
