International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) will construct a new international container terminal in the municipality of Bauan in Batangas province, Philippines, the company confirmed on Monday, May 13.

ICTSI said the new terminal will be the largest privately-funded marine terminal investment in the Philippines and will eventually be the country's second-largest container facility after the Manila International Container Terminal (MICT) in the Port of Manila.

Design and engineering studies are underway. Construction will commence in the first quarter of 2025 with the first berth scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.

ICTSI also expects the terminal will play a role in providing the marine handling needs required by the country's renewable energy transition strategy for the Southern Luzon provinces.

Upon completion, the terminal will feature up to 900 metres of quay facilities and at least eight ship-to-shore gantry cranes and an estimated handling capacity of over two million TEUs per year. The terminal will also boast direct access to Southern Luzon's expressways.
