US cargo operator Matson christened its newest Con-Ro ship in a ceremony at the General Dynamics NASSCO shipyard in San Diego on Thursday, July 2.

The Con-Ro will be the fifth Matson ship to bear the name Matsonia and is the second of two Kanaloa-class ships being built under a US$500 million order.

Measuring 265 by 34.7 metres and with capacity for 3,500 TEUs, Matsonia and its recently delivered sister Lurline are the largest Con-Ro ships ever built in the United States.

Matsonia is scheduled to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2020.
