UAE-based port operator DP World and Malaysia's Sabah Ports have established a partnership to manage the Sapangar Bay Container Port (SBCP) in eastern Malaysia.
Through the partnership, DP World will support efforts currently underway to increase SBCP's container handling capacity from 500,000 TEUs to 1.25 million TEUs by 2025.
Investments will also be made to optimise terminal workflows and accelerate digitalisation for greater operational efficiency and to increase the port's connectivity. Future enhancements at the port will include the incorporation of cold storage facilities.
SBCP, which has taken over the container operations from Kota Kinabalu Port, is positioned as a transhipment hub for the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
