South Korea's Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has unveiled its plans to order 20 eco-friendly mega containerships.
The total order will include 12 vessels above 20,000TEU and eight 14,000TEU vessels, which are likely to be deployed in the Asia-north Europe and US East coast trades, respectively.
HMM will opt for scrubber installation or LNG bunkering for all the newbuilding vessels.
It started the process by sending out request for proposal (RFP) to shipbuilding companies on April 10, and hopes all the new vessels will be sequentially delivered before the 2020 environmental regulations take effect.
