The Singapore-flagged containership Maersk Honam is expected to resume operational sailing during the second half of 2019 following a period of extensive repairs at the yard where it was originally constructed.

The vessel has been cut in two in Dubai in preparation for eventual transport of the 228.5-metre midship-to-stern section to Hyundai Heavy Industries' (HHI) Ulsan yard in South Korea where it will be rebuilt. The forward section will remain in Dubai for debris removal and eventual recycling.

Maersk Honam has been laid up in Dubai since April 2018 after a fire broke out on board while it was in the Arabian Sea on March 6 of that year. Five of the ship's 27 crewmembers were killed instantly by the blaze while a sixth succumbed to his injuries the following day.
