The newbuild is the first of two Kanaloa-class vessels being constructed for Matson by General Dynamics NASSCO. It is scheduled to make its maiden voyage to Hawaii before the end of January.

Lurline has a length of 265 metres, a beam of 34 metres, a deep draught of 11.5 metres, a displacement of over 50,000 tonnes, and capacity for 3,500 TEUs and approximately 500 vehicles plus space for rolling stock and breakbulk cargo.
