US Border Patrol boat damaged by gunfire in brief encounter on Rio Grande

A maritime law enforcement boat crewed by US Border Patrol agents came under fire while it was cruising through the Rio Grande between the United States and Mexico on Friday, August 9, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials said in a statement.

The agents were on patrol near Fronton, Texas, when they were shot at by four individuals from the Mexican side of the river at around 02:25 local time. The suspects were believed to have been armed with automatic weapons.

The Border Patrol boat was slightly damaged after being hit several times but no one on board was injured.

Over 50 rounds were reportedly fired during the incident, which is under investigation.
