The head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, Petro Tsigikal, has made his intentions to modernise the border guard's fleet clear following a working meeting with the Lithuanian border guard.
The State Development Program envisages the reform of the nations's marine security, bringing its 70 ships and boats to meet NATO and European Union standards.
"In order to modernise our fleet, we plan to upgrade existing ships, as well as to build and purchase new ship and boat projects. In addition, since May of this year we have begun a comprehensive marine protection reform and have established the Regional Office of Maritime Security " Tsigikal said.
