South Korean and Japanese trawlers collide in Sea of Japan

A Japanese fishing boat and a South Korean trawler collided at 09:38 local time on Thursday, November 15, in the Sea of Japan.

The collision occurred approximately 330 kilometres northeast of an island known as Dokdo in South Korea and Takeshima in Japan. No casualties were reported on either vessel.

The South Korean trawler became partially submerged following the collision.

Coast guard ships from Japan and South Korea as well as some nearby fishing vessels immediately came to render assistance to the crews of the stricken trawlers.
