The newest patrol boat of the Sheriff's Office of Putnam County, New York, has been formally named after one of the agency's former deputies.

Sgt. Charles J. Moore USMC honours retired deputy Charles Moore, a 20-year veteran of the Putnam Sheriff's Office who had also served with the US Marine Corps in Vietnam during the Southeast Asia conflict.

The vessel, a 21-foot (six-metre) Boston Whaler boat, was donated to the sheriff's office through the New York State Office of Parks and Recreation.
