The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed vessels and personnel to attempt to locate a small boat that has gone missing in the waters between the southern island provinces of Basilan and Sulu.

The boat with six people on board sailed out of Isabela City in Basilan on Tuesday, December 29, and was originally bound for Jolo, Sulu.

However, local authorities said that the boat had not yet reached its final destination by Thursday, December 31. Further, all attempts to contact those on board via mobile phone have been unsuccessful.

The search for the missing boat and its occupants is still ongoing with a number of Good Samaritan vessels also providing assistance to the coast guard.
