One person has gone missing after a patrol boat capsized off Antique province in the west-central Philippines on Friday, May 8, the Philippine Coast Guard confirmed through its official social media accounts.
The vessel was conducting maritime security and law enforcement operations with a mixed crew of personnel from the Philippine National Police and the coast guard in the waters off Caluya town in Antique when it encountered strong waves, causing it to overturn.
Four of the patrol boat's five occupants were subsequently pulled out of the water by a coast guard rescue team that was sent to the area following the capsizing. However, no trace of the fifth crewmember had been found, prompting authorities to deploy additional assets to the waters off Antique as part of an expanded search and rescue (SAR) operation.
The coast guard said the search for the missing individual was still ongoing as of Saturday, May 9.
