Kooiman to build two hybrid patrol boats for Port of Antwerp

Netherlands-based Kooiman Marine Group has been awarded a contract to design and build two hybrid patrol vessels in a series for the Port of Antwerp.

The 25- by 5.4-metre aluminium-hulled vessels will be equipped with a battery package enabling them to sail for up to 2.5 hours at 4.8 knots exclusively on electric power.

The vessels also have two other power modes: full diesel propulsion or hybrid propulsion. Maximum speeds of 18 knots using diesel propulsion and 11.8 knots using the hybrid propulsion system can be achieved.

To further reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, the patrol boats will be equipped with diesel particulate filter and integrated exhaust gas treatment systems.

Delivery is planned for the autumn of 2020.
