The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned ICGS Veera, the third of a planned six Vikram-class offshore patrol vessels (OPVs).
Built by Larsen and Toubro, the OPV has a length of 97 metres, a beam of 15 metres, a draught of 3.6 metres, and a speed of 26 knots. It also has a 30-millimetre naval gun, two 12.7-millimetre machine guns, and space for four rigid inflatable boats (RIBs) and a utility helicopter.
Veera will be deployed on maritime law enforcement patrols, search and rescue (SAR) operations, and limited pollution response and oil spill containment missions.
