Indian Coast Guard commissions patrol vessel Varad

The Indian Coast Guard commissioned the offshore patrol vessel (OPV) ICGS Varad into service on Friday, February 28.

The vessel is the fifth of a planned seven Vikram-class OPVs being built for the coast guard by local company Larsen and Toubro.

Varad has a length of 97 metres, a beam of 15 metres, a displacement of 2,140 tonnes, and a speed of 26 knots. Missions will include maritime security patrols, search and rescue (SAR), surveillance, and pollution response.
