German coast guard’s final Potsdam-class OPV enters service

The German Federal Coast Guard has commissioned FGS Bad Düben, the third and final Potsdam-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) delivered to the agency by local shipbuilder Fassmer.

The OPV has a length of 86.2 metres, a beam of 13.4 metres, a crew of 14, and two 4,080kW main engines. It is also equipped with a helicopter deck, space for two interceptor boats, and one BAE Systems 57-millimetre gun.

As with FGS Bamberg, the second ship in the class, Bad Düben's hull was constructed at the facilities of Lithuania's Western Baltija Shipbuilding while final outfitting took place at Fassmer.
