French defence company OCEA has confirmed its plans to establish a new shipyard in the Philippines, the Philippine Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said on Wednesday, July 7.

OCEA has pledged the equivalent of US$30 million for the construction of the yard. However, details of the yard's possible location have not yet been disclosed.

Both OCEA and the DTI expect the new facility to supply new vessels for the maritime security sector.

The company based in Les Sables-d'Olonne in northwestern France had earlier delivered four newbuild patrol vessels to the Philippine Coast Guard. This number includes the 83-metre offshore patrol vessel BRP Gabriela Silang (pictured) and four 24-metre Boracay-class fast patrol boats.
