The Croatian Ministry of the Interior has awarded Italy's Vittoria Shipyard a contract for the construction of two new coastal patrol boats.
The 21.5- by 6.5-metre vessels will be of all-aluminium construction and will be utilised for maritime law enforcement and search and rescue (SAR) duties. Two MAN 1,213kW engines will propel each boat to speeds of just over 31 knots.
The boats will also be equipped with crew quarters and sick bays. For SAR, shelter spaces will be available for accommodating shipwreck survivors.
Construction of the vessels will comply with the standards of Croatian classification society Hrvatski Registar Brodova.
Both vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2023 under the €6.5 million (US$7.1 million) contract.
