The British Virgin Islands Ports Authority (BVIPA) has acquired a new interceptor boat for US$230,000.

The vessel belongs to the same series as the 11.5-metre high-speed craft built by Midnight Express Boats for the Air and Marine Operations (AMO) branch of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). Its four 167kW outboard engines will enable it to reach speeds of 52 knots and sail for up to 400 nautical miles.

The BVIPA boat will be operated by a three-person crew and will be used for conducting harbour patrols and monitoring of aids to navigation.
