Turkey's Ares Shipyard has won a tender from the country's coast guard (part of the Ministry of Interior) for 122 fast patrol boats.

Serial production is planned for the second quarter of 2020, with deliveries taking place over the next five years.

The patrol boats will perform a number of tasks such as combatting irregular immigration, search and rescue, anti-human trafficking and maritime security missions.

To be built according to the Turkish Lloyd classification, the boats will carry out operations in all the coastal areas of Turkey, from Artvin in the northeast of the Black Sea to Hatay in the southeast of the Mediterranean.

The series will be manufactured using vacuum infusion technology from carbon-reinforced advanced composites. They will be 12 metres long, with a beam of 3.75 metres and draught of 0.8 metres.

The main propulsion system comprises two inboard diesel engines and waterjets, for a maximum speed of 35 knots and range of 160 nautical miles.
