Ares Shipyard of Turkey has been awarded a new contract to supply 14 fast patrolling and interceptor vessels (PIVs) to the Royal Oman Police.

The contract covers the construction and delivery of the vessels as part of a four-year acquisition programme.

The 26-metre PIVs will be operated by the Royal Oman Police Coast Guard (ROPCG). Each vessel will be equipped with water jet propulsion delivering a speed of 45 knots, a 12.7-millimetre auto-stabilised remote controlled naval gun, electro-optic sensors, and X-band radar.

Each PIV can also launch and recover a military type rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) for boarding and search and rescue missions.
