Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) launched a new 3,000-tonne diesel-electric submarine into the water at its Ulsan shipyard on Tuesday, September 28.

The future ROKS Shin Chae-ho is the third South Korean Navy submarine to be built under the KSS-3 series, also known as the Dosan Ahn Changho-class. Like its sisters, it will be armed with ballistic missiles, anti-ship missiles, land attack cruise missiles, and torpedoes.

The submarine will be crewed by 50 officers and enlisted sailors and will be capable of a maximum speed of 20 knots.
