The South Korean Navy commissioned a new diesel-electric submarine into service in a ceremony on Friday, August 13.
The 3,000-tonne, 83.5-metre ROKS Dosan Ahn Changho is the lead boat of four KSS-3 class submarines built by Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) and Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI). Besides torpedoes, the submarine's armament will also include anti-ship missiles, land attack cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles.
Dosan Ahn Changho will undergo further operational testing before it sails on its first deployment in August 2022.
