Admiralty Shipyards in Saint Petersburg has launched a new Project 636.3 diesel-electric attack submarine slated for the Russian Navy.

Admiralty Shipyards' parent company United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) said the submarine, which will be named Ufa after a city in Bashkortostan republic, is nearly 90 per cent complete and will soon begin undergoing mooring trials.

The submarine is scheduled for delivery and commissioning later this year. It will operate as part of the Russian Pacific Fleet.
