Russia’s second Lada-class submarine to start trials in 2019

The Russian Navy confirmed on Friday, February 22, that the diesel-electric submarine Kronshtadt will begin conducting sea trials within the year.

The submarine is the second under Project 677, also known as the Lada-class.

Like sister submarine Sankt Peterburg which entered service in 2010, Kronshtadt will have a submerged displacement of 2,700 tonnes, a length of 72 metres, a width of 7.1 metres, and a maximum speed of 21 knots.

Armament will include torpedoes and Kalibr surface-to-surface missiles.
