May 6 launch set for India’s fourth Scorpène-class submarine

The future INS Vela, one of six Scorpène-class submarines being built for the Indian Navy, is scheduled to be launched at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders' facilities in Mumbai on Monday, May 6.

The submarine is the Indian Navy's fourth ship of the Kalvari­-class, which is the local sub-class of the Scorpène submarines designed by Naval Group.

Sea trials for Vela will commence immediately afterward, an Indian Navy official confirmed.
