USS Ashland to support Typhoon Yutu recovery effort in Northern Marianas

The US Navy's Whidbey Island-class dock landing ship (LSD) USS Ashland (LSD 48) with embarked US Marines from Combat Logistics Battalion 31 arrived in the vicinity of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) to provide Department of Defense support to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and civil and local officials as part of the FEMA-supported Typhoon Yutu recovery effort on Saturday, November 3.

Sailors from Naval Beach Unit 7 will be using landing craft, utilities (LCUs) to deliver sailors and marines along with trucks and supplies to support local relief efforts. They will assist in the clearing of debris and protecting property for the people of CNMI.

They will also be providing over 18,000 litres of water, 20,000 litres of fuel, tents, generators, air conditioning units, vehicles, and equipment to help with cleaning and moving debris.
