The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), the joint UN-NATO peacekeeping force in Lebanon, has confirmed that one of the vessels in its Maritime Task Force was damaged by an explosion at the Port of Beirut on Tuesday, August 4.

Some UNIFIL naval peacekeepers suffered varying degrees of injury from the blast, which had also ended up killing at least 100 people and wounding over 4,000 others.

The injured peacekeepers have since been transferred to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. UNIFIL said it is currently assessing the situation, including the scale of the impact on its personnel.

The unidentified vessel was docked at the port when the explosion occurred.
