The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) has confirmed that it will hand over a decommissioned Royal Navy mine countermeasures vessel (MCMV) to the Lithuanian government.

Ex-HMS Quorn will be the third ex-Royal Navy 1980s-era Hunt-class MCMV to be handed over to Lithuania after ex-HMS Cottesmore and ex-HMS Dulverton.

Prior to the transfer to the Lithuanian Navy, Quorn will undergo an MOD-led regeneration and upgrade programme valued between £40 million (US$49.8 million) and £50 million (US$62.3 million). The programme will cover the installation of a more modern sonar and mine countermeasures system.
