The South Korean Navy and Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction (HHIC) have begun conducting sea trials of the future ROKS Marado, the second Dokdo-class helicopter carrier.

The 199-metre ship would be able to embark 10 UH-60 Blackhawk utility helicopters, 10 main battle tanks, and 700 troops. The troops and vehicles could be transported from the carrier to shore via two landing craft air cushions (LCACs) deployed from the well deck at the vessel's stern.

Like sister ship ROKS Dokdo, Marado is slated to become the central component of one of two South Korean Navy Rapid Response Fleets, each of which would also consist of seven guided missile destroyers, two frigates, and two attack submarines.

Delivery of Marado is scheduled for the end of 2020.
