Second Daegu-class frigate delivered to South Korean Navy

The South Korean Navy recently took delivery of a new guided missile frigate from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).

The future ROKS Gyeongnam is the second ship of the Daegu-class frigates optimised for air defence, anti-surface warfare, and anti-submarine warfare.

The future Gyeongnam has a length of 122 metres, a beam of 14 metres, a draught of four metres, and accommodations for 140 crewmembers. Four MTU 12V4000 M53B diesel engines and a Rolls-Royce MT30 gas turbine are arranged in a combined diesel-electric or gas (CODLOG) configuration and give the frigate a speed of 30 knots and a range of 8,000 kilometres.
