The Algerian Navy has received its new sail training ship El-Mellah from Remontowa Shipbuilding during a handover ceremony at Gdansk.
El-Mellah (meaning sailor in Arabic) was built by the Polish shipbuilder and launched in November 2015.
The ship, which is 110 metres long, 14.5 metres wide and has masts that tower 54 metres above the water line, started its final round of sea trials on September 16.
El-Mellah will be crewed by 222 officers, officers and sailors, and there is room for 120 cadets on board.
Like other tall ships, El-Mellah, will visit foreign ports and take part in international events in an ambassadorial role.
The vessel will leave Gdansk and head for Tamentfoust, Algeria, the home of Algerian Naval Academy.
