The Royal Navy's HMS Tamar became the latest River-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) to be officially launched when it was lowered into the water at BAE Systems' Govan yard on Friday, October 12.

The ship was then towed three kilometres downstream to BAE's Scotstoun facility, where fitting out will take place.

Tamar is 90.5 metres long and 13.5 metres wide. Two MAN 16V28/33D diesel engines delivering a total output of 14,700kW will give the vessel a service speed of 25 knots.
