The Royal Navy commissioned its newest River-class offshore patrol vessel (OPV) in a ceremony on Thursday, January 7.

HMS Spey was delivered to Portsmouth Naval Base in October 2020 from BAE Systems' shipyards on the Clyde for the final stages of construction before the ship's crew took custody on Friday afternoon (local time).

Spey is expected to depart Portsmouth next month for the first time. It will conduct a month of operational sea training later in the year before going on its first operational patrol.
