The Philippine Navy has confirmed that one of its vessels has been placed under lockdown following a recent outbreak of Covid-19 on board.

A total of 22 sailors on the patrol ship BRP Quezon have tested positive for the disease and have since been placed in a shore isolation facility at Naval Base Cavite just south of Manila.

A navy spokeswoman said the infected personnel are slated to be transferred to quarantine facilities within Manila where "more comprehensive medical attention" will be available.

Quezon's 25 other crewmembers who have tested negative will remain under quarantine aboard ship for a minimum of 14 days.
