The Nigerian Navy has placed an order for 15 rigid hull inflatable boats (RHIBs) with Paramount Maritime of South Africa.
The order consists of both 8.5-metre and 9.5-metre RHIBs that will be used as fast patrol boats.
The RHIBs to be built will be high-speed planing vessels with thermal/fire and sound-insulated engine compartments, various propulsion options, and a self-rightening bag and cylinder in event of capsizing.
The boats will also offer ballistic protection in the form of removable panels mountable on port and starboard sides. These panels can provide protection against 7.62-millimetre armour-piercing bullets.
