Navantia has teamed with Saab Australia and CEA Technologies to submit a proposal for the Canadian Surface Combatant (CSC) program.

The proposal is focused on delivering an operationally proven design, the F-105 frigate design used by the Spanish Navy, and leveraging the capabilities of key Canadian companies to deliver a ship ideally suited to requirements.

Variants of the design are in service for the Norwegian Navy and the destroyer HMAS Hobart for the Royal Australian Navy.

This modern anti-submarine warfare ship will incorporate Saab's 9LV Combat Management Systems, elements of which are in service on more than 240 platforms in 16 navies across the globe, including Canada's Halifax class frigates.

Other key suppliers to support the CSC program include Lockheed Martin, General Dynamic Mission Systems, DRS Technologies Canada, OSI Maritime Service and Rheinmetall Canada.

The Royal Canadian Navy will acquire up to 15 frigates to replace the Iroquois class destroyers and Halifax class frigates. Construction will begin in the early 2020s.
