Israel christens first Sa’ar 6 corvette

The lead ship of the new Sa'ar 6-class of corvettes ordered for the Israeli Navy was christened in a ceremony at ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems' (TKMS) Kiel shipyard on Thursday, May 23.

The ship was officially named Magen ("Shield") and is scheduled to be delivered to Israel for final fitting out in the spring of 2020.

The corvette will have an LOA of approximately 90 metres, a beam of 13 metres, and a full load displacement of approximately 1,900 tonnes upon completion.
