An Irish Naval Service patrol vessel responded to a small pleasure craft in distress off County Donegal in the late afternoon (local time) of Sunday, August 4.
The Peacock-class patrol vessel LÉ Ciara was conducting a maritime defence and security patrol when it received a distress call sent by the pleasure craft's crew soon after it began taking on water approximately four nautical miles north of Fanad Head.
Ciara's crew located the small craft and maintained station until a vessel despatched by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) station at Lough Swilly arrived at the scene shortly before 17:00.
The Lough Swilly RNLI lifeboat took the distressed vessel under tow. Both of the vessel's occupants were reported to be unharmed.
Ciara then stood down from search and rescue (SAR) operations and resumed its patrols in the area.
