The Indonesian Ministry of Defence and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri have entered into an agreement regarding the supply of two patrol ships in a series.
The vessels will be variants of the 143-metre multi-purpose offshore patrol vessels (Pattugliatore Polivalente d'Altura; PPA) that Fincantieri is building for the Italian Navy. Duties will include maritime security patrols, search and rescue (SAR), and civil protection operations.
The PPA variants slated for the Indonesian Navy are currently under construction and fitting at Fincantieri's Integrated Shipyard in Riva Trigoso-Muggiano.
As part of the agreement, Fincantieri will act as the prime contractor towards the Indonesian Ministry of Defence and will specifically coordinate with other industrial partners for the customisation of the ships' combat systems and the provision of related logistics services.
The agreement has a value of approximately €1.18 billion (US$1.27 billion).
