India's Goa Shipyard laid the keel for a new warship on Friday, June 18.
The vessel will be the tenth frigate in the Indian Navy's Talwar-class, which also includes eight ships that were built in Russia. The yet unnamed ninth and tenth frigates are the only two ships in the class that are being built in India.
The final two Talwar-class frigates are scheduled to delivered to the Indian Navy beginning in 2026.
Once completed, the frigate will have a length of 124.8 metres, a beam of 15.2 metres, a displacement of 4,035 tonnes at full load, and four gas turbines that will deliver a speed of 32 knots. Armament will include anti-ship missiles, land attack missiles, surface-to-air missiles, a 100-millimetre naval gun, close-in weapon systems, and torpedoes.
