Kolkata-based Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) has launched the second indigenously-built Project P17A or Nilgiri-class stealth frigate slated for the Indian Navy.

The vessel, which has been christened INS Himgiri, will be powered by two diesel engines and two gas turbines in a combined diesel and gas (CODAG) configuration. This will propel the vessel to sustained speeds in excess of 28 knots.

The future Himgiri is expected to be commissioned in 2023.
