Indian Navy’s first indigenously built missile corvette retired from service

The Indian Navy decommissioned its first indigenously built guided missile corvette in a ceremony at Visakhapatnam on Thursday, December 23.

INS Khukri, named after a traditional bladed weapon, was built by what is now Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) and commissioned into Indian service on August 23, 1989.

Khukri was the lead ship of a class of four corvettes, which includes two built by MDL and two built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers. Each vessel has a length of 91 metres, a crew complement of 112, and armament consisting of anti-ship and surface-to-air missiles, a 76-millimetre naval gun, and two 30-millimetre close-in weapon systems.
