The Honduran Navy's newest offshore patrol vessel (OPV) has departed the facilities of Israel Shipyards and set sail on its delivery voyage to its new operators.

The OPV, which is a variant of Israel Shipyards' Sa'ar 4.5 missile boat, has been named General José Trinidad Cabañas after a celebrated figure in the Honduran Civil War of 1826-1829 who later became the country's president. It has a length of 62 metres, a speed of 32 knots, a helicopter deck, and anti-ship missiles.

General José Trinidad Cabañas is expected to arrive in Honduras by early January 2020. It will be used on maritime security patrols, counter-drug operations, and fisheries protection.
